Any computer (or other type of device) which is capable of functioning perfectly without needing to be connected to another device for control and guidance, although the device may itself control another device, or need to receive media from another device. Standalone may also refer to a device that is housed separately from other devices to which it is connected. For example, some raster image processors are standalone devices, which exist physically as separate units, although they control imagesetters connected to them.
