Superimposition

In film, television, video, or multimedia production, the placing of one image over another and displaying them together on one screen. One video image may be placed over another, a computer-generated image may be placed over a video image (and vice versa), or graphics may be placed over a video or computer-generated image (as in the creation of titles or credits). A superimposed image is also called an overlay. In video editing, often superimposition is effected by means of chroma-keying.
