TWAIN

In scanning, a standard protocol used tgo transfer information between specific applications and peripheral devices. For example, TWAIN-compliant applications such as Adobe Photoshop can be used to drive scanner. The term TWAIN itself is so-named because it stands "twain" (as in "never the twain shall meet") the application and the device. Depending on whom you ask, it could also mean "Technology Without An Interesting Name."
