In packaging, a sealed glass container used in the distribution of pharmaceutical products. A vial contains a single dose or multiple doses of a medication, commonly one used for hypodermic injection. It is formed out of a single piece of glass, and is hermetically sealed by inserting a rubber stopper and a crimped aluminum ring at the open end. Medication is withdrawn from a vial by inserting a syringe through the rubber. The important consideration in the manufacture of glass amoules is that the class be completely inert chemically, and not react in any way with the drug contain within it. See also Ampule.
