Wipe

In motion picture, video, and multimedia editing, a transition between two scenes or shots in which the second scene is rapidly "wiped" onto the first, or moved over the forst image along a visible border, in contrast to a cut or a dissolve. Wipes can be from top to bottom (rather like pulling a shade over the first image), bottom to top, left to right, right to left, diagonally, out from the center, and in a variety of special customized shapes, such as stars, stripes, circles, or silhouettes of Elvis.
