In geometry, a line or axis of a coordinate system drawn at right angles to both the horizontal (x-axis) and vertical (y-axis) axes, on which the z coordinate is plotted. In three-dimensional graphics, it is the z-axis which provides depth. See also x-Axis and y-axis.
