Calender-Blackened Spots/Streaks

A paper defect characterized by dark spots or streaks on a paper surface, generated during calendering of a paper web. Such marks are caused by a wet spot or streak on the web being enlarged and intensified as a result of the high compression generated by the calender. Also known as blackening.
