A liquid ester—chemical formula C7H14O2—comprising a mixture of isomers derived from amyl alcohol. Used as a lacquer in some printing ink or varnish formulations (in particular, those used in screen printing) because of its low volatility. Amyl acetate is also called banana oil since it smells like bananas. It is also used as an artificial fruit flavor in some foods and candies.
