Developer

In photography or any photographic process, a chemical or combination of chemicals used to render a latent image produced in a gelatino-silver film emulsion visible, usually by converting areas that have been exposed to light (non-image areas, at least in photographic negatives) from a silver halide to black metallic silver. Different types of film require different types of developer and development times. Developing is often halted by immersing the film in a stop bath followed by a fixing solution. See Photography.
