A color proof, typically prepared photographically or digitally—by exposing a negative or positive to light-sensitive materials, or generating color output from a computer, respectively—designed to simulate the appearance a printed piece. Off-press proofs can either be overlay proofs (such as NAPS or Color-Key) or single-sheet proofs (such as Cromalin or Matchprint). An off-press proof differs from a press proof in that the latter is prepared on a printing press. Also known as a prepress proof.
