In typography, a term for the number of characters a fixed pitch typewriter or printer will print per inch. Ten-pitch, or pica, is used to refer to a pitch of 10 characters per inch. Twelve-pitch, or elite, is used to refer to a pitch of 12 characters per inch.
In printing ink terminology, pitch is used to refer to a black, bituminous, asphaltic material added as either a solid or semi-solid to printing inks as a means of increasing ink length or decreasing ink viscosity.
