Powdering

A form of piling, the accumulation of visible particles of lint or paper-cutter dust on the non-image areas of a printing plate or blanket, which can have deleterious effects on print quality, and even accelerate blanket or plate wear. Powdering is typically found in those areas of the blanket or plate that contact the outer edges of the paper sheet or web, especially powdering caused by dust from paper trimmers. (See Piling.) Powdering is also called dusting.
