PrintWiki is an online encyclopedia with the goal to provide a comprehensive, open-source knowledge base of information on the printing industry. There are certain things that PrintWiki is not.
PrintWiki articles should not roam outside the scope of printing industry. For example an article on the Clarus the dogcow is acceptable, but an article on the Welsh Corgi, breeds of dogs is not acceptable.
PrintWiki is not a slang dictionary or jargon guide
PrintWiki is not a slang dictionary or jargon guide. Do not create an entry merely to define a slang term or industry jargon. Slang and industry jargon should be listed under their proper term.
PrintWiki is not a soapbox or your marketing department
PrintWiki is not a soapbox or a vehicle for marketing and advertising. PrintWiki articles should not include:
-
Self-promotion. You are free to write about yourself or projects you have a strong personal involvement in. However, quality standards for encyclopedic articles need to be followed. PrintWiki is not a platform for the biased promotion of your ideas or yourself. There are many companies and individuals related to the printing industries. These companies and individuals are not allowed to use PrintWiki to advertise their goods and services. Articles about companies and individuals are acceptable and should be more along the lines of a biography and should respect their competitors. Self-promoting articles will either be trimmed or removed. Contributors posting such articles will be banned from future posting. See the No Self Promotion policy for guidance.
-
Advertising or Marketing material. Articles about companies and products are acceptable if they are written in an objective and unbiased style.
-
Propaganda or advocacy
PrintWiki is not a repository of links
PrintWiki articles are not collections of external links or Internet directories. There is nothing wrong with adding one or more useful content-relevant links to an article. However, excessive lists of external links detract from the purpose of PrintWiki. If you want to build a directory of useful printing industry web pages, consider participating in the Open Directory Project
