Cross-Machine Tension Burst

A burst or rupture in a paper web caused by abrupt inconsistencies in a paper's thickness across the roll's width, or by winding the roll too tightly. (See also Air Shear Burst, Caliper Shear Burst, and Full Machine-Direction Burst.)
