Full Machine-Direction Burst

A burst or rupture of a paper web characterized by a complete rupture of the web running parallel to the roll's machine direction, caused by a winding of the roll that exceeds the paper's tensile strength. (See also Air Shear Burst, Caliper Shear Burst, and Cross-Machine Tension Burst.)
